Allchurch CommunicationsGetting Your Just Rewards (continued from top)

1. Attract & retain talent: A company’s success depends on its staff. Award nominations and wins add a real vote of confidence by validating what you do and enhancing your ability to keep good people.

2. Free publicity! The free publicity an award-winning business receives can result in more business and new connections. PR might be difficult to measure on the bottom line but it is invaluable.

3. Gain a sales advantage: Use awards as a sales tool to increase awareness through third-party validation.

4. Reinforce corporate direction: Choose your award program in alignment with your company’s corporate direction.

5. Add to your bottom line: Can winning corporate awards offer value to your bottom line? Recent research has revealed more than 600 quality corporate award winners had 37% more sales growth and 44% higher stock price return than their peers.

But I’m only a small business
The benefits of business awards for small businesses are even bigger than they are for large ones. With many small businesses struggling to establish recognition and credibility in the marketplace, an award win or nomination can open doors and have a huge impact on growth.

Contra – no, not a counterrevolutionary guerrilla from Nicaragua, but in PR speak it means a deal that allows for the exchange of services, goods or publicity without money changing hands – much friendlier than the other contra!

Flags

What is Semaphore?

Semaphore is an old fashioned term that refers to a visual system for sending information using flags, often between two ships. Before Morse code or radio, two people would stand, one on each ship, madly waving flags to communicate using alphabetic code.

Semaphore flags were used by Admiral Lord Nelson in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar, to great effect it seems, as Napoleon’s navy was blown out of the water, as they say.

Even today, semaphore is used for emergency communication. Which just goes to show there’s nothing wrong with a bit of old fashioned flag waving to get a message across.
